Game Developers Conference

The annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) is this week (7th-11th) in San Francisco. Is it just me or is all the cool stuff in San Fran and more generally California. Regardless, GDC is a gathering of all the worlds’ greatest video game developers. While it’s not the announcement whore that is known as E3, GDC typically moistens the mouths of gamers worldwide with tech demos and predictions of the direction of video game development.
This year, gamers should be drooling by the end of GDC on Friday. Why? With the next generation consoles just around the corner, more details regarding their graphical powers and functionality is expected to be discussed (if not revealed) at this years GDC. Sony will be hyping their ‘cell‘ processor. Microsoft will be laying the foundation of their ‘XNA‘ revolution. And Nintendo will…well not many people know about Nintendo. Two events to really take note of will be the Xbox’s J.Allard’s “The Future of Games: Unlocking the Opportunity”Keynote on Wednesday and Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata’s “The Heart of a Gamer” Keynote on Thursday.
Keep an eye on the ‘currently reading’ section (over there to the left) for a steady flow of news related to GDC and I hopefully will have the time to do a ‘wrap up’ entry later in the week.
