Under Attack

Wow, just wow. I was just thinking the other day that I really need to take the time to set up a comment spam killer here on SpyderFCS.com. I didn’t take the time because of the amount of work I have had lately. Looks like I should have however. Today I got home and I had roughly 150 spam comments, most of which linking to wonderful online gambling sites. Comment spam is unfortunately a ridiculous problem as stated in these articles [1, 2] along with commentaries on how to combat it [1, 2].

Needless to say, I took the time to install both Spam Karma and Kitten’s Spaminator for my WordPress installation as there are the most highly touted in the community. If you know of another please feel free to let me know. Both plugins were extremely easy to install and I have yet to see if they are working but hopefully I’ll get a test soon. Anyway, if you have the time leave a quick comment so I can test to make sure everything is working.

Update: Yay, Spam Karma has already blocked one spam comment. That sure didn’t take long; roughly 35 minutes.

Update #2: The wonderful folks at Empire Poker seem to be the culprits behind the wave of comment spam aimed at my site. Luckily I must have caught the wave about half way through because since I’ve enabled the spam filters, roughly 150 additional “comments” have be blocked. Pretty ridiculous to spam a blog with comments at the rate of 1 per minute.
