Fast Forward

Since I first received my Tivo (and I certainly didn’t pay anything close to the $299 MSRP) I must say that at first my viewing habits did not change all the much.
I still watched the shows I usually tune into during the time in which they air, all but defeating the purpose of actually having the Tivo. However, because of the increase in work I have had lately I have really begun to see the true value of this incredible device.
I could go on about why you should get a Tivo but that’s your prerogative. Instead, I will say that I am slightly upset at Tivo because of the announcement that they will soon be adding “banners” to the screen as you fast-forward through commercials of your recorded programs. Being the optimist that I am, I doubt that these “banners” will be obtrusive and/or annoying (provided that don’t add video and audio “banners”) but they still seem unnecessary.
With additions like these to the Tivo services and similar services alternative methods of getting the shows you want, when you want, and how you want them will likely be sprouting up. BroadCatching seems to be a viable solution to the problem and while slightly in depth to configure actually seems like a great setup. Don’t get me wrong, the legal mongers would have a field day with all the BitTorrent downloading of TV shows.
And really quick, it would appear that congress may have slightly wised up in their pursuit to slam a copyright on everything in the world. Between the MPAA and the RIAA soon we will have to have our memory erased after seeing a movie or have to buy separate CD’s for our cars, homes, and MP3 players.
