What are they thinking?

Companies often create products that have little to zero chance of success. The ideas that some of these companies try to push on consumers amazes me along with making me wonder who exactly is working for these companies. The following two products are prime examples.

The first one, while having innocent enough origins, seems to have hit a niche in the market certainly not intended. Yamada Denshi, a Tokyo based firm, created a add-on camera for Vodafone handsets that allows users to take picture in extremely low light situations. Sounds like a great idea to me. But they forgot to mention that the camera is able to accomplish this low light infrared photography because it uses the heat produced by the body to produce it’s pictures. In turn, using this method allows the camera to become a sort of “x-ray vision” camera, specifically allowing the camera to see through certain types of clothing (particularly dark bikinis). I can only imagine how this one will be abused.

Second is a product from one [insert sarcasm] my favorite companies, Oakley. Famous for the overly popular eye wear, Oakley proudly present their newest pair of sunglasses, the Thump (pictured to the left). Oakley Thump SunglassesNot only are these glasses ugly (my opinion) but they integrate a feature that I never thought I’d see in a pair of sunglasses, a MP3 player. That’s right, these sweet shades have a MP3 player built right in. I laughed pretty hard at the glasses but one of the accessories really put the icing on the cake for me. For only $35.00 you can purchase a car charger (pictured right) for your new sunglasses. Yes, a car charger that plugs into your sunglass as your drive down the road. Now that I think about it, would you even be legally allowed to wear these while driving? Oakley Thump ChargerSince you can’t wear headphones while you drive, I would think these would be classified as such. Regardless, these sunglasses have to be one of the worst ideas I have seen in a long time. Aside from being big, bulky, and utterly ridiculous, the price tag of $395.00 for the 128mb (60 songs) version and $495.00 for the 256mb (120 songs) version would hopefully kick some sense into your before you reached the counter with these in hand.
