New Look, New Thoughts

Welcome to the newly redesigned SpyderFCS.com. First, let me start of by saying that this redesign is in the midst of it’s beta testing. Why release it? Well, to be honest, I can’t stand to be the only one looking at it anymore. I start liking the design less and less the more I sit here tweaking every little aspect from line spacing to the color of the links. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean I’m going to change the design again anytime soon. Instead, I am going to stick the the general layout and work much more on improving the content that is provided within that design.

Design has turned from a slight interest to a full fledged obsession for me. I am constantly trying to perfect each little aspect which is great until it begins to have a detrimental effect on content. I’ve neglected to post new entries and all because I was so enthralled in the design aspect of the site. But what really makes a quality website? Surely it is not purely design. Look at Slashdot and all they have been able to accomplish with almost a complete lack of design (in my opinion). For me, I visit sites like hickdesign, Mike Davidson’s Blog, Binary Bonsai, and countless others (many of which can be found under “daily reads” to the right of this entry). These sites inspire me and challenge me to strive to achieve the most visual appealing design possible. While I still strive for that goal, I am just going to try to split my allocated time 50/50 to both design and content with an extra 10% on function.

Over the course of the next few days/week/months, I will be tweaking everything possible on SpyderFCS.com. Many pages on this site are incomplete or simply do not exist at this point and I apologize of that. But in my attempt to deliver a fully “complete” site, I have abandoned my readers and allowed myself to do exactly what I told myself I wouldn’t when I started SpyderFCS.com; allow it to dissolve. No more! I’m reviving it, pumping on it’s chest, giving mouth to mouth, resuscitating the very soul. Maybe than it will grow into the vision that has always been awaiting to surface.
