The New and Improved…

Wow…I forgot what this feels like. It’s been way to long since I have posted anything here but I suppose that my extended break may have been a breath of fresh air. I’m once again motived to provide you the best of what I have to offer. I’m looking into a few things for the site, both design and content wise but my biggest concern right now is the stuff that you the viewer never get to see.
I publish to my site with a “blogging” system called MovableType made by Six Apart. I love the system and have been an great supporter of their projects but the best part of MovableType was that the system was completely free as long as you could install the system yourself. With help from the community, I was able to install the system and the rest is what you see now. However, Six Apart just released the newest version of MovableType, version 3.0 .
With all previous versions of MovableType being free, few expected anything to change with the release of 3.0; little did we know. MovableType, like all quality free programs, has begun to only allow it’s use for a fee. At first I wasn’t that worried figuring it would cost around the price of a standard software program, $50, but instead the new version carries a price of $69.95. Not only is the price above what I expected but it also is “limited.” Without boring you all to death, I’ll try to sum up what I mean by “limited” with this: the new version 3.0 allows for only 5 different web blogs. To put this in perspective, spyderfcs.com currently uses 8+ web blogs for each section of the site. Under the new pricing structure I would only be able to provide 5 sections.
Needless to say, this isn’t going to work for me. I’m looking into alternatives but most likely I will continue using MovableType 2.664, as this version will remain free. If you know of a solid blogging system please contact me with suggestions…

On a side note, I apologize for how ugly my site looks right now with the bottom bar so high like that…
