My Thumbs Hurt

Posted in General 6 years, 2 months ago.

I have been away for quite some time now. I’ve tried to relax and just take some time after a long semester. In the time away, I have applied to Best Buy and was offered a job starting at $7.50/hr but after much consideration, I decided that Best Buy was not the place for me. Instead, I applied to work on campus at one of the computer sites. Hopefully they will contact me with some good news. Aside from my excuse for a life (joking), this is the most exciting week in gaming. That’s right, it’s E3. Below I am just going to recap a few of the announcements made thus far.

Microsoft Xbox

Halo 2 arrives on November 9th, 2004
Bungie and Microsoft announced the release date with Peter Moore coming on stage and revealing a Tattoo on his arm of the release date, implying that it WILL NOT change. Let’s hope.
Electronic Arts (EA) will support Xbox Live
The Xbox has been void of all online gaming from the biggest publisher in the business. Starting with NCAA Football 2005 on July 13th, this will all change.

Sony Playstation 2

PSP (Playstation Portable)
Sony showed some footage of games, movie trailers, and music videos running on the PSP and let me say, they looked amazing. Unfortunately, with a massive 4.5 inch LCD screen the unit is absolutely huge and with no mention of price, the hardware appears like it will be easily above the $250 mark.

Nintendo Gamecube

Gameboy DS
Nintendo, like Sony, announced a new mobile gaming device. This time Nintendo will update its Gameboy Series to feature dual-screens (ala the “DS”) and fully 3D acceleration much like the PSP. The price is $200 and according to EBGames, it will arrive November 29th just in time for Christmas
Zelda Grows Up
That’s right, Zelda has finally hit puberty. The trailer looks great and that action seems to be what all Zelda fans have been waiting for.

This is in no way an all inclusive list but rather a general overview of some of the bigger announcements. If you have the opportunity check out the Halo 2 trailer that was demoed during Microsoft’s press event Monday Night. It truly is the most impressive video game I have seen to date. Also be sure to watch theForza Motorsports trailer. This game looks like the super-racer that Xbox has been waiting for (much like Gran Tourismo on PS2).
