Dork News

On the web design front, I am working on a few different things. Some have worked and some have not. Regardless, I am working on making this site a better experience for the viewer. My goal from the month of May (that’s right, May) is to have the site completely user friendly. This includes the following:

1. Create a browser friendly experience
I know there are the few problems with how the site renders in Internet Explorer. And although I recommend an alternative browser such as FireFox, I do realize Internet Explorer is the number one browser in the world.
2. Validation
This one means very little to most but it’s more an extension of the above. I am going to work on producing 100% valid CSS code (actually already done), XML, and HMTL code.
3. Search Function
With the site growing larger and larger each day, I am working on adding a search function to the page. For this, there will be a single search page that will be used to search the entire site. The results will be displayed based on the page which they reside.
4. Better Writing
I know I suck at updates and at what the updates concern. One day I will possess the power to publish interesting articles.
5. Create a Logo
I may ask for some help on this one considering my limited graphical talent. I’m not sure what I even want but regardless of SpyderFCS, I really don’t like spiders all that much and don’t think I would want on in a logo (unless very subtle).

So that’s it, those are the key points of what I want to work on. Exciting I know but for me, sadly enough it is. Also, I want to ask you a question I have been mulling.

Do you prefer links to open in new windows or in the same window?

I ask because currently all the links on my page open in new browser windows and it has come to my attention that this annoys many. So which do you prefer?

oh…forgot to mention this but the AIM (iChat) icon up there on the right side tells you if I am on aim or not. If it’s gray, I am not. If it’s colored, I am and you can even click it to IM me (provided you have AIM of course). I’m still not sure where I am going to put it so for now, it’s there.

i like them to open in a new window… because more often than not, if links to different sites open in the same window, i either for get to go back to the original page i was looking at, or i cant find my way back to it. soooo… i say, leave as is.
