Bowl “Championship” Series

Yes, you are going to hear about the BCS here, too. With the flood of news coverage the BCS has received in wake of its bowl placements, the search is on for a new system. And while a new system is incredibly unlikely for the next 2 years (ABC’s contract with the BCS ends in 2 years), the people at ESPN have created the most simple, common sense plan I have seen thus far.

Off to the Brackets

While a true playoff system may or may not be the answer, one thing remains: it makes the most sense. But is it possible for teams to expand their schedule by as much as four games? Absolutely. With this system, the “playoffs” would end before February with an undisputed National Champion. Even if they did want the championship game to be on January 4th, as it is now, each team’s season could consist of 10 games with no conference championship games. Don’t want to shorten the season? Put only the top 8 teams in the playoff system.

No matter how it would be done, you can be promised one thing…
It would be better than the current system.
